Managing inventory is as simple as looking up the bumper and clicking the "Manage Inventory" button. A window opens so that you can add, sell, discard, or tag a bumper as "finished."
Below the screen shot are explanations for the numbered items in the screen shot.
1. When you add an item to your inventory, you must give it a grade. The grade defaults to "A", but you can give it a lower grade by clicking the drop down and selecting a different grade. Why would you want to grade the bumpers as they arrive? It gives you an idea of how much time it will take to refurbish the bumper. Let's say that a body shop calls looking for a particular bumper. You look up the bumper and you see that the only bumper you have in stock is graded "C". If it's a really cheap bumper, it may not be worth your time. Or, maybe the body shop needs it quickly. You may have to refer the body shop elsewhere because you know that bumpers with a grade of "C" will take a long time to complete.
2. Once you select the grade, click the "Add item" button to add it to inventory.
3. Once the bumper is added to inventory, it will display in rows like this. If you refurbish a bumper, you can tag it as being "Finished" by checking this box. Normally, you don't refurbish cores until a body shop orders one, but let say a bumper was returned because the insurance company decided to "total out" the car rather than repair it. It is helpful to know if you have any finished cores in stock. Let's say a body shop needs a bumper cover quickly. If you have a finished one on the shelf, you will be able to deliver the bumper on the same day.
4. When you sell a bumper, you will need to get it out of your inventory. To do so, just click the "sell" link. Do NOT click the "sell" link if you are throwing away the bumper. dBumper keeps track of the bumpers that you sell so that you can see which ones are more popular. If you are throwing away a bumper cover, use the "Discard" link.
5. If you are throwing away old bumper covers or throwing away bumper covers that you know you will never sell, then you need to get them out of your inventory. You don't want the bumpers that you throw away to show up on your sales report, so you will click the "Discard" link to remove the bumper from your inventory.
